biglaz
Does anyone have information about the Electrovoice DH1A drivers? I know they are 2" exit and weigh a ton. Would they be viable in a home 2 channel setup? What is the sound quality? Thanks for any info:
Bobby Beck
I just recently acquired a couple of these, but I have no horns for them yet, so I haven't used them . They are supposed to be some of the greatest compression drivers available. Used in lots of movie theatre systems in the 80's and 90's I think you would probably love them in a home set up here is a spec link. hope this helps. http://pdf.textfiles.com/manuals/STARINMANUALS/Bosch%20-%20EV/DH1A,%20DH1A-16.pdf
biglaz
Thanks for the info. What kind of horns are you planning for your drivers?
Bobby Beck
I want the EV Deltamax horns. The horns used in theater applications are huge. designed so that the horn sits on top of the low end speakers, I want the smaller deltamax so I can intstall the drivers and horns inside the cabinet for portability. Bobby Beck
those aren't my deltamax speakers, I just downloaded a pic online so you could see them.
djk
You can remove the snout from the DH1A and have a 1.4" exit driver. At that point you can also look at the Altec MRII564, a very nice compact horn for a flush mount install. For home use the HR90 is one of the best sounding horns for the DH1. It's about the same width as a Cornwall or LaScala. http://archives.telex.com/archives/EV/Horns/EDS/HR90%20EDS.pdf
Bobby Beck
Tell me what you guys think about this EV/ Altec adaptor, http://cgi.ebay.com/Altec-33710-1-4-driver-2-horn-throat-adapter-EV-JBL_W0QQitemZ350264829879QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVintage_Electronics_R2?hash=item518d6927b7#ht_543wt_1167
djk
That is for an Altec 1.4" exit to a JBL 2" entry.
Bobby Beck
would that work backwards with a DH1A and an Altec horn? I just wanted to try the DH1A's with my Altecs sometime.
Bobby Beck
my Altecs have 288's on them with a 3 bolt pattern. 805 horn
djk
You can use it backwards with some phase loss above 10Khz or so, but the multicells shouldn't be used that high anyway. The DH1A will not sound any better than a 288G or newer version (used as a two-way without a tweeter).
Bobby Beck
Hey thanks so much, great info
Doc-Fin
I use the dh1as on ev horns in my home theatre setup. EV made multiple size horns for that driver and mainly for movie theatres. I happen to have several sets of the horns that the drivers work with. They will eventually end up in the garage sale fprum. I run my evs with k-horns and they sound great to me although you may have to attenate the horns a bit to balance them.
