HT setup

I am the original owner of a pair of Forte's (OW - purchased 1988) and a pair of KG3 (OW - purchased in 1992). Used with Carver CT-7 and M-.5T for 2 channel audio.

I recently inherited a Sony KDFE50-A10 DLP HDTV , a Sony SAVA 500 HT system and a set of Bose 6.2 and JBL J2050 speakers.

I have a 12 x 12 den, which wifey says I can convert into a theater.

I have a limited budget and am considering either an Oynko TXSR607 (available locally new ~$400) or a Sony DH800 AV receiver.

A couple of questions?

1. Can/should I use the J2050's as center channel?

2. I was thinking Fortes as fronts and KG3 as rears.

3. Should I trash the Bose, and do a 5 channel setup or use the bose as surrounds?

4. The Forte's do well with low end - do I need a Sub?

5. Any recommendations/rejections on the AV receivers?

Thanks for any input.

Welcome to the forum. You want your front 3 speakers to be "timbre matched", that way when the sound pans across the front, it's seamless. Basically the front 3 speakers need to be from the same family. You'll want a sub to get the most from the LFE track. I'll let others tackle the rest.

1. Get the Onkyo Receiver.........good Choice.

2. You should have No problem selling the Bose Equipment, but Do sell it !

3. Either an Academy or a Heresy for the Center...............

4. Listen for at Least 30 days before buying a Sub. I found these speakers to have sufficient Bass.......(for me).

JMHO.
