Hamilton
So, I asked a question earlier last week about some Forte's vs RF-3's and unfortunately missed out on a GREAT deal on the Forte's cause I just didn't get back to the seller quick enough. With that said, I'm wondering what exactly to go with if another good deal arises since I am in SoCal with folks trading speakers for food more or less. I'm upgrading (maybe downgrading..) from an Onkyo 702 to the Onkyo 608 for the HDMI capability however lose out on the ability to use an amp, but feel that 100 watts RMS is plenty to piss my neighbors off currently. What do you Klipsch junkies recommend for the fronts as it's the last set I REALLY need to replace? Recenlty someone posted some Epic CF-3's which look sick but I fear the lack of power may diminish my returns. Thanks for your input! Ironsave
Opinions are like arses; everyone has one........ (I love that joke; and seriously; you will find a wide difference of opinions.... a GOOD thing). Here is mine: I am not sure if you have heard Heresies; but I love mine. I have the exact receiver you had. I cannot go above 70% without the room resonating seriously..... so good to hear and feel the music; but for fear of becoming homeless (apartment) I just can not. I would consider a set of these; if you are lucky you could score them around $3-400..... (Mine were $250, not mint) I believe the Epics are 2 way. I love the KG series of speakers (also 2 way); but my feeling is that 3 way speakers do a much better job due to the dedicated mid horn. To me; there is no comparison.......... Please re read my first line........ It is just MY opinion....... Good Luck!
jtubbs6117
I love the Reference gear!!! My first set of klipsch floorstanding were RF3s and I was amazed at the sound. When I bought my first 2ch amp I fell in love with them all over again. The depth on the bass and impact from all music was just like listening to new music. Right now I am using RF7's and wouldn't change at all. I hope to get another set. But everyone has a set that is perfect for them. RF3's will run great on any strong true av unit but to understand their full potential you will need to amp them. " please run RMS power so you know what you bought" There are many members here that can help you or provide pro and cons to either of the sets. The collection of knowledge here is just about unending.
Rivernuggets
Iron and Jtubbs present something you must decide for yourself. Do you want to go two-way or three-way? It's best to hear both in one place (with the same source material, receiver, etc.). See if there is a Hi-Fi store in your area that sells the Heritage and Reference lines. Or if you know someone who can demo for you, that may be better as there would be no bias (or comission). Let your ears decide. If you have the cash to throw around, I say get those CF-3s. Never heard them myself. Hopping from one speaker set to another is one way to get to audio nirvana. Sure it costs, but it's way fun too.
