biglaz
Some compression drivers advertise the use of ferrofluid with the voice coil to improve power handling etc. Question is, I have never received any ferrofluid in a diaphram replacement kit. Is the fluid not applied or is it not a liquid that can be applied? Thanks for any info.
WMcD
I had to replace a diaphragms in my e-bay Quartets. As I recall there was ferrofluid in the magnet gap. The instructions were poor multi-generation photocopies. Again from memory the instructions said that there may or may not be ferrofluid in the gap. None was supplied. The ferrofluid looked like a brown piece of plastic trapped in about one-quarter or less of the length of the ring. It seems that once the voice coil in in place, it displaces much of the volume of the gap and thus the ferrofluid completely surrounds the voice coil. It may be that in most cases the ferrofluid is not easily lost from the gap and therefore none is supplied. Part-Experss used to sell little tubes, but I don't see it on their website, tonight. Don Richard
The ferrofluid stays in the gap when the old diaphragm is removed. Any droplets remaining can be put back in. The new diaphragm becomes surrounded by the fluid upon installation.
