usmcsoldriver
So i'm listening to my RF7's and I notice this oddity coming from the left speaker. I keep replying the song where I hear it till I determain that it is defiatly coming from that speaker only. I take off the grill and gently push on each driver starting from the bottom. The first one goes in and out smoothly. The top one however, there is a very noticeable scratching inside whenever the cone moves. As I started to listen for it, i could hear its effects on my music. Any idea what caused this?
CECAA850
You smoked the voice coil. Most likely culpret is feeding them too much of a clipped signal. Possibly underpowered and overdriven, but that's just a guess.
usmcsoldriver
How much do these replacement drivers usually go for?
CECAA850
You can call 1-800-KLIPSCH for a replacement cost. I've also seen those exact drivers show up for sale in the "Garage Sale" section from time to time.
psg
Had the same issue with a La Scala mid horn driver, which is admittely a different beast. The culprit was a tiny piece of wire in the voice coil gap. I ran a business card in the gap and got the wire out and it was good as new. I don't suppose that RF-7 driver can be openned in a similar way?
