DU73 Posted July 27, 2010 Share Posted July 27, 2010 Sooo, I am really considering buying this unit, Marantz SR4003, as I have a chance at getting it at a reasonable price.. I have also read great reviews on this unit. What I want to achieve is, enjoying the latest sound formats that BluRay offers, re Master HD, True HD, etc.. Can achieve this, this Marantz model has HDMI ins and out Using PS3 for BluRay – do I let the PS3 do the decoding.. I am really clueless in this area.. wuzzzer Posted July 27, 2010 Share Posted July 27, 2010 On the newest PS3s they will Bitstream HD audio over HDMI so that if you have a receiver that decodes TrueHD, etc. the receiver will do the decoding. Otherwise if you have an older PS3 you send the audio signal Linear PCM over HDMI and the PS3 will be doing the HD audio signal decoding. As long as a receiver accepts multi-channel PCM over HDMI you'll be set. According to Marantz http://us.marantz.com/Products/2513.asp the 4003 does accept up to 7.1 PCM over HDMI so you'll be good to go with that receiver. Looks like the 4003 has pre-amp outputs also so if you ever wanted to connect an external amp to it you'll be able to do that. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
