Foost
I am doing a paper on the history of HT. If anyone knows of a current source of information, that would be great. Otherwise, would you like to describe your progression (if you have been doing this for more than 10 years). I know there isn't much of a history before the 80's, but i want to gather as much info as i can. I think one of the first forms was quadraphonic sp? thanks
Colin
Try these: http://www.ultimatehometheater.com/ht_information/evolution.asp http://www.dolby.com/tech/mp.br.0102.EvolutionOfSound.html http://hometheater.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm? site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bgsu.edu%2Fdepartments%2Ftcom%2Fhdtvhistory.html http://www.labguysworld.com/VTR_History.htm I had a black & white reel to reel video tape recorder (VTR) with a 5" screen. I recorded MASH episodes and played them back at parties. I guess that was home theater 20 years ago! ------------------ Colin's Music System Cornwall 1s & Klipsch subs; lights out & tubes glowing! avman
back in the mid-to-late 60's my grandfather would project movies, home movies, and cartoons on a glass-beaded pull-down screen w/an 8mm projector. the projector had a little speaker built-in. he did his own splicing, titles, etc. it was lots of fun, and i recollected back to those days, thinking about the subliminal connection between that and my career. avman. ------------------ 1-pair klf 30's c-7 center ksps-6 surrounds RSW-15 sony strda-777ES receiver upgraded to v.2.02 including virtual matrix 6.1 sony playstation 2 sony dvpnc 650-v 5-disc dvd/cd/SACD changer dishnetwork model 6000 HD sat rcvr w/digital off-air tuner sony kv36xbr450 high-definition 4:3 tv sharp xv-z1u lcd projector w/84" 4:3 sharp screen Bello'international Italian-made a/v furniture panamax max dbs+5 surge protector/power conditioner monster cable and nxg interconnects/12 gua.speaker wire KLIPSCH-So Good It Hz! HornEd
Gee whiz, Avman, I was doing that in the mid to late 50's... The only connection my grandfather had to the movies is that he had a small speaking part in "Broadway Bill" with Myrna Loy. The conclusion of the film was shot at a major horseracing track of which he was manager. Your comment was interesting to me since much of my success and enjoyment in the business world has had something to do with imaging. But your comment suddenly made me now realize that I am too old to be your grandfather! -HornEd
avman
ed, he may have been showing/filming home movies before that time, i was born in the EARLY 60's. i saw a film of the snowfall we had in new orleans when i was a baby, and you know how rare snowfall in n.o.la. is. he also caught our champion doberman pinscher (black/tan)running across a snow-covered football field at the high scool i would attend 12yrs.later. he had a very heavy camera that would wind up, you load the film, and shoot away! he passed away over 10yrs.ago, but we had a great deal of time together, and i learned alot from him,and i learn from you too.avman. ------------------ 1-pair klf 30's c-7 center ksps-6 surrounds RSW-15 sony strda-777ES receiver upgraded to v.2.02 including virtual matrix 6.1 sony playstation 2 sony dvpnc 650-v 5-disc dvd/cd/SACD changer dishnetwork model 6000 HD sat rcvr w/digital off-air tuner sony kv36xbr450 high-definition 4:3 tv sharp xv-z1u lcd projector w/84" 4:3 sharp screen Bello'international Italian-made a/v furniture panamax max dbs+5 surge protector/power conditioner monster cable and nxg interconnects/12 gua.speaker wire KLIPSCH-So Good It Hz!
