40 Hz Crossover Setting?

Recommended Posts

I have a Sony str-dh800 7.1 receiver along with 6 Sony 4-way tower speakers and a matching center channel speaker , 2 Yamaha yst-sw215's and I just purchased a Klipsh Synergy sub-10 pwerded subwoofer. my question is that the manual for the speakers recommend that I set my crossover for them to 40hz including the center channer and the Klipsh sub I just got goes from 40hz to 120hz , the bass from that one alone is unreal at 40hz but should ALL speakers be set at 40hz? I've heard so many things on how to set levels but what is the EXACT crossover settingso that all of my speakers blend well?[H]

UWZX,

Welcome to the forum.

My suggestion would be to experiment with your crossovers going from 40hz to 80hz and sit and take a listen. You might be surprised that the higher setting will probably sound better and it will seem like your receiver has more power. Raising the crossover will allow the sub to handle the low freq. and take some strain off of your receiver's amps therefore more power to your towers and center. JMO.
