lloydb
I'd like to build a set of speakers and use a folded horn for the bass. I was thinking of using these drivers for the horn. I've built a set of front loaded horns but I was just going to wing the fold design on this one. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=290-510 Then I was going to use these for midranges http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=290-404 tweeters.. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=270-135 For those who know way more than me.... if I'm making a mistake with this, please help me out. I really like the punch of a folded horn. This is going to be for a large room (home theater).
djk
That tweeter is quite bad. Are you trying to horn load the mid? It's not suited for that, and is not efficient enough otherwise. The woofer is pretty good.
lloydb
No, I wasn't planning to horn load the mid... advice on a mid and tweeter?
lloydb
What would make a mid suitable for horn loading if I wanted to do that?
lloydb
Ok, I think I'm beginning to understand. The midrange needs a higher "bl" for horn loading. How about this one? http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=290-
djk
This would be even better: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=294-
lloydb
Ok cool, much appreciated.. What would you use for a tweeter?

Selenium is very reasonable. I am going to try and find a less expensive mid driver too.

djk
A possible solution for mids and HF: http://www.cowanaudio.com/pipeline.html A pair of Eminence Alpha 6 would be an inexpensive substitute for the B&C drivers.
Binkstir
djk, lol, I think this may be beyond my skill level. I like it though. I take it that the oblong slots are for the midrange drivers? One driver for each pair of slots? lloydb
djk
"I take it that the oblong slots are for the midrange drivers?" Yes " One driver for each pair of slots?" Yes Do you have a table saw? It's not as hard as it looks. The angles in the horizontal plane are only 45° and 22.5° I built four of these on Sunday afternoon (with one helper with a pickup truck). lloydb
Yeah, I have a table saw. I just don't understand all the stuff I can't see in that photo. (im lost without plans) I built four of these on Sunday afternoon (with one helper with a pickup truck). Man, you are the speaker project king! djk
Maybe a ready made mid and HF horn flare is what you seek? http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/Venue%20Series/VS3115-WH.pdf
lloydb
Well I can build the flare and such if I had plans. I just don't wanna do it wrong. You know what I've been thinking? I found the la scala plans. I could just build a set of those. That one guy has the woofer for sale.. all I'd have to do is come up with a crossover and the horns right? djk
A LS is fairly straightforward. K43E (black) vs K33E (gray) 1)Vented LS. 2)Vented LS (grey) vs stock LS (black), K43E.
