Hi,

Can someone who is knowledgable about such things please compare the specs on these two speakers and tell me what the difference between them is?

Thank you,

"I would hope that the newer model sounded better."

You would hope.

It's certainly cheaper. In general these are not as hard and seem to not have as much detail. Bob Crites did some tests on phenolic, polymer, and titanium. He concluded that a good working pair of phenolic were fine, if you damaged one that the pair would be better off replaced with titanium (as the phenolic was no longer available).

Phenolic means linen impregnated with phenolic resin, it's hard.

Polymer (plastic) is easier (and less expensive) to make.

If you damage a phenolic, the pair may have to be repaired with polymer (I don't think the titanium is available for this model).

I have owned them both.

A side by side comparison (A-B testing) yeilded mixed results.

I honestly think they sounded the same. (Both are REALLY GOOD)

If you can get a pair for under $100; I think that's one of the better values you can find.....

As mentioned; that is probably why they were designated a new #; KG 2.5 vs KG 2.2...

(It was done because the switch to a different material in the tweeter.)
