Jteske88
In recent months I purchased sf-3s in stunning condition at a good price and I love em! My question is I'm also a adcom lover, since I can bi amp wire my speakers could I run two gfa-555 to these bad boys one amp for highs and other for lows. Would this just lead me to a path of destruction on my new purchase or would it sound great? Also I have been wondering about crossover upgrades and such is there any thing I can do for my sf-3s? russ69
You would not gain all that much, you might be better off looking at a sweeter sounding amp, although the Adcoms are not all that bad. What pre are you using? A single 555 with a nice pre, maybe tube, would round out the Adcom. You already have pleny of beans. Thanx, Russ
Sandy West
Bi-wiring accompllishes practically nothing if you use good speaker wire in the first place (16 gauge or heavier for reasonably short runs, 12 gauge or heavier for longer runs). True (active) bi-amping with an external x-over between pre-amp and the power amps does, but you've got lots of power there and, if I were you, I'd use a single stereo power amp and conventional speaker wiring. The KISS principle applies.
John Chi-town
I to am an Adcom lover, and have owned 555 1 & 2 series as well as the 5500. I bought a pristine 5802 on the used market about a year ago, and have never looked back. Best sounding Adcom amp INMHO. As others have stated you will see little to no gain by bi-amping. The 5802 provides 300 WPC into an 8 OHM load. And is "Class A" biased to about 50+ watts per channel then goes into an A/B status.
Jteske88
I like hearing all this input since I'm younger and am going through a learning curve, my preamplifier is just my harman avr 430, speaker cable is 10gauge on like maybe 5 foot runs if that matters
