Promedia 2.1 Sub Bumps but no sound (Post DIY Cable Fix)

So I got these speakers for free from my girlfriend who thought they were broken. Since she already bought new ones I thought I could fix these for myself pretty easily and I've now put $30 into them and am no further along.

Problem: The PS/2 Cable is acting faulty. I would have to pull it to a direction to get the speakers to work at all before the DIY "fix." The sub pops whenever it is tinkered with. A very loud pop I might add.

I figured this is just the common cable problem that I've been reading on here and being too impatient to wait for MR Clean's delivery I bought a cable and sliced it up and matched it up. It would play sounds through the speakers but never the speakers and sub. So I ordered MR Clean's cables via Ebay since I figured maybe my connections were still wrong. I go to hook everything up color to color, plug it in, and expect to hear everything. Nothing. The green on light won't even come on unless I really wiggle the cord around.

Help please! Thanks!

I suspect your wiring may still be wrong.......

Just because the colors match the (new) wire is no guarantee.....

Over the years the klipsch wiring color has changed.......

You will have to use a multimeter to check this.

(Are you sure all of your connections are solid at the splice?).....

Thanks for the reply. All of my connections are solid. I've installed all of my audio equipment myself from my Klipsch Towers down to my Alpine Type X components in my car.

I don't have a multimeter, though. I guess I'll go out and buy one. I figured buying Mr. Clean's was a straight shot.

I have performed this repair twice:

When I did mine; I buzzed each wire with a meter on the old plug, then copied the color/position to the new.

(The first time I actually cut the plastic on the bad DIN connector and copied each wire's color/position that way).

You can get a cheap meter for under ten bucks; for this app; it would be sufficient).

It may be that the wiring is correct....... IDK.

You are sure the sound card is seated properly, correct?

Hopefully someone else who can take it a step further will chime in......

WOW; just reread your first post......

You most definitely have it wired wrong..........

(It worked before when you cut and copied; but likely copied one wire wrong; which is why no sub).

Do you still have the old (bad/ cut) connector?

I know it's not the sound card. My current speakers work just fine from it. Asus Essense STX, the thing is AMAZING! I plugged my Ultimate Ears into it the other day and wow, just wow. ANYWAY..

The first time around I thought I made a correct diagram working from diagrams I saw on here and it still didn't work with a radio shack cable. That's when I ordered Mr. Clean's. I'll probably just get a multimeter sometime and try again. With this ice storm it will probably be a few days.

Just want to make sure this is known to that it was buggy BEFORE any of the DIY fixes. The cable had to be turned completely and taped to the back of the amp for any sound to work but a sub "pop." The sound quality only got worse too.

did you attach the non-insulated wire from my DIY repair cable to the shielding wire of the klipsch cable? And Yeah, a few people had problems with the plastic around my new shipment of cables as being to shallow so I have been trimming them before shipping so other people don't have to deal with the same hassle. And if you look around enough you can get a multimeter for $5, lol. I have a couple of those cheap ones and they work fine for this kind of work. you can also make your own tester with wire, a flashlight bulb or LED and a battery etc. Now, Did you ever check to make sure that the other cable you installed had the correct color to pin configuration? or did you just "go for it". applying power to the wrong connections can certainly fry out parts of these systems.

I did attach the non-insulated wire. My other wire did not have the correct color combo but by finding out what pinhole (ha!) went where I could figure out where the Klipsch's would connect to. I've spent about three hours trying to get these to work.
