cyto
One of the drivers on my KG4 (K-8-K) is blown and the butyl rubber is torn. I have it at a speaker repair shop and the person there is having trouble finding the butyl rubber surround and said I may be better off if I could find a replacement. I know these come up on Ebay quite often and there are a few there now. Here is my question: Midwest speaker lists this as a direct replacement for the KG4 (among others) http://w.mawebcenters.com/midwestspeaker/ecommerce/home-audio/woofers/8/mw-audio-mw-5082-8-woofer.html In your opinion would I be better off buying the new replacement or an old K-8-K? djk
If it was mine, and I just needed one driver, I would find one on eBay. If I needed more than one, or had the money, I would buy a set of these before I would buy the ones in your link: https://www.madisound.com/store/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=150&products_id=
HudsonValleyNoah
If I were in you place, I would use the eBay option because either of the other woofers will devalue the Kg4. Even if those were better woofers (I think at least one of those might be) neither is an original. So, is the Kg4 the last speaker that you will ever own ? Are you OK with giving it away when you want to move to something else? Most often the correct Kg4 woofers are sold in pairs on eBay (the Kg2 woofer is wrong for the Kg4) so buy the pair and have a spare when the other one from that cabinet dies.
