Ok so I have been wanting a mcintosh amp for I dont know how long. There is now one close by that is a mc7205. Reviews seem good, but I wanted to ask the forum.

It would be driven by my yamaha RX-V1500. I mainly use this setup now for movies, since to me the yammie isnt a very musical receiver. Would this mc be a good amp to use for both music and for movies, provided I replace the yamaha? (it wont be anytime soon but I plan on getting a mcintosh pre)

Well, it's up to you. I've NEVER heard a Mc amp, so I can't tell you anything about how it sounds. I believe it is rated at around 120 wpc, and I would imagine you'd get every bit of that, and handle any impedence dips you might encounter (just speculative). Lastly, I've read that Mcs are musical amps and that is their main market. Bottom line is that I can't imagine you'd be anything other than thrilled with the 7205 and you'll probably never buy another amp.
