vnzbd
Hello All, I have two sets of Quartets both in the oiled oak. The grains are very mismatched and I am not a fan of the original finish. I have considered reveneering but would like to try to restain them first. I would like them to come out on the dark side. I hope that hides the grain mismatch and I prefer the look of the walnuts, mahoganys and even deep reds that I have seen on other manufactures speakers, specifically Zu Audio. They offer a finish I beleive that is called sangria red. Any tips of preping the cabinets including removing the oil and type of stain, etc to use? A semi gloss looking finish is the desired result. Thanks!
Groomlakearea51
Take a look at: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/109693.aspx and : http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/117315.aspx While these links discuss veneering, they does go into detail on the preparation of the veneer for staining, etc.
Groomlakearea51
PS: I think we talked before; and if you would like, you can bring them up here and we can refinish them. Send me a PM.
vnzbd
Marshall, Thanks for the links. The refinishes are nothing short of incredible! I do not think my Q's are at the same starting point(I beleive they are in better condition). I hope to pull off the risers this weekend and experiment with prep and stain. The risers will not be going back on so I feel comfortable with testing. I greatly appreciate your offer and depending how things go I may ask for your guidance. I have been out to visit the "Wall of VooDoo before". I came out when Bill(Willland) was in town with his family and purchased a set of H IIs, walnut from you. Only about an hours drive. Thanks again, Mike
