KW 15 problems

I have a klipsh SW 15 sub. It has allways made a pretty good rattle sound like the speakers are being driven too hard or a cone is broke. They don't seem to be separated or anything. They haven't seemed to be as powerful as I had hoped. I certanly can't run them at full power or even haif way. I was wondering if there is a certain problem with them. They have been this way since I bought them many years ago. Then I had a Denon avr 2500 now I have a Marantz sr 5001. The sub just makes a crackle sound like a speakers blone if a really low bass part comes up. I figure since its a Klipsh there must be something wrong. I have a pair of Chorus II and they way over power the sub. What can I do to troubleshoot and fix my subs.

Well I hope I haven't messed anything up with my sw 15. I have turned the gain up to high trying to get more out of the woofer, but I useually kept it way low cause it allways seemed touchy. Is there anything I can do to make the sound richer or am I just crankin it up to much?

Thanks for the info and if you can give me any other tip they would be appreciated.

You can get more out of it by placing it in a corner. You can also get a second sw15, and flatten the response while adding a 6db gain.

Many people place the sub where it is the most attractive. The chances of that being the place where it is most effective are slim. If not in a corner, then try other locations. Also face it in different directions and see if you can get improvement that way. Finding the sweet spot for a sub is dependent on the room, and is best found with experimentation. Just grab some extra rca cord and have at it.
