Joe D
What would be my best best for REAR-surround speakers? A second set of RS-3's, or would a second RC-3 be better (since the rear-surround speakers are really just one channel anyway). Thanks, - Joe D. lerajie
I personally prefer direct radiating speakers for rear surrounds. ------------------ lerajie
PhilH
JoeD: Unless you just have Dolby ProLogic, there is a lot more than that in the rear channels. Dolby Digital and DTS have full-range, separate channels in the rear. Even if you have ProLogic only, you want two speakers on the rear for some basic ambience and in that case, direct radiators will do OK. Joe D
I'm sorry for the confusion, I wasn't very clear the first time. I'm actually referring to the second set of surround speakers for a 6.1 DTS-ES setup. So, the rear-surrounds I'm referring to are IN ADDITION to the typical fronts, center, and surrounds. - Joe D. boa12
two direct speakers could be best for rear surrounds too. 7.1 discrete channel is probably not far away. which speaks & components are u using now?
lerajie
Joe D: That is what I figured you meant. I would use dipoles/wdst speakers for surrounds ( I am using RS-3s) and direct radiators for rear surrounds (currently KSB 2.1's will be KLF-20's) ------------------ lerajie

I haven't actually purchased them yet, but I will within the next few weeks. So, I'm just trying to get some opinions ahead of time, so I can just buy everything all at once. Thanks, - Joe D. PhilH
Joe D: In that case, try to match up those rears with the fronts and 5 channel music will sound great! With RF-3's up front, RF-3's or RB-5's in the rear would work well.
boa12
yea like phil says - that would be the way to go. won't go wrong w/ either of those as rear surrounds.
Lone Palm
Phil, You mentioned 5 channel music. Read about it in Sound&Vision but have not heard it. Is it as good as I hope it is? Iam a huge fan of Neil Young and he seems to think it is the hottest thing since sliced bread. Ithink he is approaching it the right way. The front three channels being the band and the rears being audience and room ambience,
