asimov
I am buying a pair of the old SB1.1 bookshelf speakers for use in a small apartment, and need to know what would be a suitable amp for them. I am a non-audiophile, with a rock/pop/classical cd collection, listening to plain ol' 2-channel stereo. Can anyone recommend a budget priced (under $200) amp? mike stehr
I dunno if 200 bones will get you anything new. I picked up a Yamaha integrated AX-592 3 or 4 years ago for $500. Check the Hock Shops in your local area. If you are patient and careful, 200 bucks would probably get you a nice Solid State unit off Ebay. Colin
The Wave 8 clearly provide the tube sound, for a pittance of the price of most good tube or SS amps. They perform with a joyous snap and pop. More like the exuberance of college football than the smooth professionalism of the NFL. Yet, the low cost and low powered tube amps were wonderful to hear. They have a whiff of the rare air of magical audio combinations. Indeed, I found myself returning again and again to rock recordings and playing the Waves LOUD. http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0302/aslwave8.htm ------------------ Colin's Music System Cornwall 1s & Klipsch subs; lights out & tubes glowing!
