artbrewer
recently saw some heresy's for sale..."an audio engineer has modified them with bass ports in the rear to enhance the fidelity" any credence to this claim?
DavidF
Are you considering buying them? Then no, no ehancement at all. Could there be some benefit in porting the box? Possibly as means to lower pressure in the box at high SPL.. As in a PA application where the low bass is passed off to a sub.
djk
The enclosure is too small to port with the stock driver. If you change the driver you can port it , go deeper, handle more power, and raise the efficiency a bit. russ69
I'm not a speaker designer but you can rest assured that the cabinet and driver are optimized for best performance.
Quiet_Hollow
If you change the driver you can port it , go deeper, handle more power, and raise the efficiency a bit. For a cool $500. [^o)]
djk
I bought the pair of McCauly B1240 in the pictures for $150 plus shipping, one of the pair looked to be new. The K22K is 94.6dB at 200hz, B1240 is 97.3dB (almost 3dB louder). The K22K is 84.2dB at 40hz, the 6th order vented B1240 is 94.6dB (a full 10dB more output). With 100W input the K22K is excursion limited below 70hz, with 350W input the B1240 is excusion limited below 32hz.
