Heresy I No Sound

Recommended Posts

One of my Heresy I speakers is not producing sound. I've checked the cabling and moved one of my HII speakers up to the front to make sure it's not the amp. So, now that those things have been ruled out, what should I check on the speaker? I'm thinking it's either the crossover or whatever you call where the speaker wire connects. Terminal bridge perhaps? It it is the crossover, it and it's pair will be taking a trip to Arkansas to see Bob.

did the speakers get subjected to a volume burst? no sound from all the drivers is unusual. check to see if someone installed internal fuses between the main connection wires from the terminals to the crossovers. If no fuses....and no volume burst to account for all the drivers getting smoked...check the ground wires on the crossovers...the wires are on the second row and connect from the main input terminals to all the drivers...sometimes corrosion bulds up and it creates and open....unscrew them half a turn then retighten will usally do it. if that does not work....disconnect one lead of all the drivers from the crossover and test them with a multi meter.....you should get approx 5.6 ohms for the woofer....10.4 to 11.1 for the mid driver...and 6.1 to 6.8 for the tweeter.

Try removing the back and running the speaker wire directly to the crossover input.

The most likely problem is the ring terminal on the end of the wire running from the crossover to the back input terminal block. Try polishing up the ring and replacing the screw that goes through to the block on the back.

Great for you! I was going to suggest swapping the crossover from the working one to the other and testing; but you diagnosed the problem and filled the prescription! Well done. How do they sound?

Post a pic so we can see what you are listening to. Congrats!
