Matching Speakers... Quints as F w/C1 Center

I have some space limitations which won't allow me to use anything but sats for my fronts. I'm currently happy enough with my Polk Sub and Surrounds, but want to add the C1 as my center (mainly due to the increased sensitivity... room is not that big and I have trouble with dialogue, etc. because I need to keep overall volume relatively low).

Anyway, I want to match the speakers for the soundstage ... as I've been told I really need to do (and seems to make a lot of sense). I have about 5"-6" max on each side of the video and the Quints would fit.

Can get them various places for about $50 pair, the C1 for about $120-$150.

So, what do you think? Also, if anyone has any tips on best place to buy these please let me know.

Thanks.

Think you can squeeze a pair of SB-1's in there? They are 6.5" wide, but they ARE rear ported so will need some room to breath behind them.

The SC-.5 is probably the closer match to the Quintets as far as a center goes, but others on this board report good results with the SC-1.

I'm a little leery of suggesting on-line non-authorized dealers lately, with a couple reports of altered serial numbers. But I think someone checked in with positive reports on www.sounddistributors.com.

The other thing is that for what you are looking to spend, do you really care if the serial numbers are altered?

Doug:

Thanks for replying. Here's my issue. I have a corner (built-in) ent. center. It's drywall/stucco over 2x4 construction... since you're from AZ you probably know the style. The center section is big enough for a Toshiba 34" widescreen hdtv and leaves (maybe) about 6" on each side. So, I doubt I could squeeze in the SB-1's.

BUT.. above this opening is another shelf area and I could put them there. The dividing shelf itself is about 6" in height (putting it the shelf bottom about 8" from the top of the TV). So, I could presumably put the center and the mains all together up there. It would put those speakers about 20" from the center of the screen and they would be facing (unfortunately) about 2' over our heads in the listening area. Maybe that's okay though? Also, the width of the upper shelf is about 38"... and I'm not sure if that's enough separation from eachother, especially if they're on the same plane.

So, the questions are:

- What's the general opinion on placing the mains and the center on the same plane?

- What's the recommendation on the height placement of the soundstage speakers relative to the listening height?

Also, the most important question... Where do I go to get therapy for overthinking/obsessing about this to the extent that it has taken over my life?

Thanks!

Troy - Ideally, all 3 front speakers WOULD be on the same plane, but as they aren't generally built the same size, it can be difficult to do.

I think the height would not be an issue (you could angle them down so they "fire" at you). Also, if you can get 38" between them on the shelf above the TV, that's probably about the same as you'll get with them on each side of the TV, isn't it?
