killerbee_vr6
199. The 1602 is the current model in Denon's main line. They often make models with odd nomenclatures for foreign markets or to eliminate competing with themsleves. Stick to the 1602, or the 1802 if you can... boa12
i've heard they also make retailer specific models. such as a dif model# for sears that's identical to the mainstream model. they have a great site at www.denon.com ------------------ My Home Systems Page

dougdrake
Jas - The differences are minor. On the 1403: 1) No s-video switching 2) No optical digital output 3) Binding posts only on 3 front speakers As mentioned, I believe the 1403 is a model that you might find in the more "mass market" or big-box stores (like Sears, etc...) and the 1602 is in the more "boutiquey" stores. It helps protect their dealer network that way... Doug ------------------ My System
JasN00b
whats a binding post? ------------------ --------------------- I. Love. MUSIC!
skonopa
For the extra $100 over the 1602 for the 1802, I'd would spend it and go with the 1802. With the 1802 to you'll get 80 watts verus the 70 watts on the 1602. Also and more importantly, you'll get more inputs, such as 3 optical versus the one, 4 A/V inputs instead of the 3, etc. Also, the 1802 has pre-amp output for the front l/r and center channel. That can be real nice if you decide to upgrade to a seperate amp for the fronts and drive the rears from the Denon. The 1602 does not have this feature. Binding posts are the big red and black knob like things on the back panel where you connect the speaker wires to the reciever. Of course, there is also set of binding posts on the speaker itself. Binding posts are much better than those spring clips like are found on Bose stuff or the back of the ProMedia amp (Or my old cheapy Yamaha RV-702 reciever I had before the current Denon 3802). ------------------ Steven Konopa Fredericksburg, VA Denon AVR3802 (Receiver) RF-7 (Fronts) RC-7 (Center) RC-7 (Rear) RS-7 (A Surrounds) Infinity RS2000.5 (B Surrounds - recycled) REL Storm III (Subwoofer 1) Yamaha YST-SW40 (Subwoofer 2 - Recycled) JVC XV-S65GD (DVD) Sharp DX-200 (CD - ancient) RCA DWD490RE (DirecTV/Ultimate TV receiver) Sharp 32 inch (TV) This message has been edited by skonopa on 07-17-2002 at 09:23 PM
