lifter
Well, I decided to go with the horn load.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/JBL-PRO-SERIES-LOW-FREQ-4560A-15-DRIVER-HORN-SINGLE-CABINET-2220-2205-E140-E145/200994116166?_trksid=p2050601.m2372&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D207%26meid%3D5582127991704697712%26pid%3D100085%26prg%3D1112%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D200994116166%26%26clkid%3D5582128973587259940&_qi=RTM1562569 I need to pick a driver.. Im thinking of the B&C 15 http://www.prosoundservice.com/m9/BC-15NDL76--b-c-15ndl76-15-neodymium-woofer.html Advice/suggestions??
djk
Don't bother, the mass corner on that driver is only 300hz. The horn in the JBL4560/Altec A7 only starts really working above about 200hz, and the best driver available is the JBL 2220 series, useable to 500hz in those designs. djk
The 4560/A7 boxes are not well suited to modern needs, they are too big for what they can do. Best use of 4560/A7 type cabinets (EV TL5050's on the bottom). Redesign for a 12 and take a chainsaw to the un-needed parts of the 4560/A7 and this is what it looks like (horn is the same size as the horn portion of the 4560/A7). Redesign for a pair of 12's, better sounding but bigger (horn is same size as the horn portion of the JBL 4550/Altec A4) Edited March 18, 2014 by djk
djk
The 4550/A4 was really too big (48"W x 34.5"H), so I redesigned it to work better. Terrible photo of new dual 12 mid horn, 30"W x 40"H. Old PA with stacked single 12 type 4560/A7 sized horns. I have plans for the new dual 12 mid horn, a pretty easy build. They require either a JBL 2202, EV 12L, or B&C 12PE32 to work the best. Looks great, but can't touch the newer designs. Edited March 19, 2014 by djk

djk
A Quad V12 semi-horn mid cabinet, good to 800hz or so. A 15" version would also be possible, good to 600hz or so. These can be in the range of 106dB~107dB/2.83V/1M down to 100hz to so. . . Edited March 19, 2014 by djk
