I have seen this asked a lot on the forum. And I mostly remember the answer being front ported. Any characteristics of each that form the basis of the answer? is it just personal taste from listening to both? What are my Forte's? Sorry for the dumb questions. What are my Forte's? Technically they're ported using a rear passive driver. As for preference...it depends largely on placement from what I understand. Front firing ports tend to do better in more enclosed spaces, rear firing works better when there's some distance between the speaker and the wall, sealed can put more emphasis on high-frequency response (my understanding only). I have both a 35 and a 3 II now and I did have a 52 II at one time, and personally I prefer the 3 II, just sounds fuller to me - but that could vary between a lot of different people.
