UncleDevil
My 12' driver on the RP-5 pops at reference levels. Balance is set to neutral. Left speaker pops, right is fine. It pops during recordings of hard hitting bass songs.(dance music) It has done this on several of my recordings. If I turn it down to say -10 it goes away. I know it is loud but this speaker still should not pop. My amp is not clipping. Any thoughts? lynnm
It sounds as if the woofer driver may be bottoming out at high volume. What follows is a WAG: I don't know the construction of the bass module in an RP-5 but I am wondering if it is an acoustic suspension design. The behaviour you describe is typical for an A/S design with a leaky cabinet. This is because the trapped air volume of the essentially air tight box is used to control the woofer's cone movement. boa12
ud, i had the rp-5 for a spell & their sub outputs set all the way down to flat. anything more was too much relative to the other speaks. & yes they did bottom out pretty often if that was turned up & I got some big bass/lfe bursts. as the manual says start at flat on the bass contour (output). if flat isn't enough you may want to experiment w/ room placement, & some experimentation & level setting using a sound meter. also your receiver probably has output settings for both sub & LFE. ------------------ My Home Systems Page
