Marantz 1040
I'm looking to buy a set of Heresy I crossovers. If anyone has upgraded theirs and they want to sell their old ones please let me know. Thanks

Marantz 1040
The tags have been removed off the back of the speakers or they don't have the original backs. The cabinets where unfinished birch that someone stained. The speakers load from the back. Is there a mark inside somewhere that I can look for to determine if they are E or E2? HudsonValleyNoah
The tags have been removed off the back of the speakers or they don't have the original backs. The cabinets where unfinished birch that someone stained. The speakers load from the back. Is there a mark inside somewhere that I can look for to determine if they are E or E2? if these are original Heresy cabs, the serial number is stamped on the edge of the back . One of the "numbers" is a letter. The letter tells the year. the move from E to E2 was 1978 or 79 depending on the components used (woofer, midrange and tweeter.) Next unscrew the screws from the back panel and remove it; thus exposing the model numbers on the components. Also - once the back panel is removed, you will notice the stamped serial "numbers" on the back of the cabinet more easily. report back... N The Type E was in use the longest... Marantz 1040
Here's what the insides look like (I'm not including a photo of the woofer because it says "Radio Shack" on the back and I'm pretty sure that's not original. :-) Be kind, I'm a newbie and I already know I got screwed on this deal. That's why I'm hunting parts.
Guest thesloth
Could you draw up the schematic for the crossovers that are in there now? Looks like there are two caps, two inductors, and an auto transformer in the ones pictured. From memory the only difference between E and E2 was the cap across the woofer in E2. I have heresy II's so I am probably not much help.
Marantz 1040
This is going to sound bad, but I can't draw a schematic. I wouldn't know where to start. When I took them to my local speaker guy who is knowledgeable in Klipsch speakers he said they weren't Klipsch crossovers. He didn't think the tweeters were the right kind and that the horns were the right manufacturer but the wrong model.
Guest thesloth
Yes those are definitely not the stock crossovers. Type E has two caps, one inductor and one transformer. I think type E2 has just one more capacitor. Drawing a schematic isn't necessary I was just curious to how they had it wired, they might of had to change a crossover point to more suit the driver. HudsonValleyNoah
yeah, that's an older H1. also, not klipsch tweeters rather old Electro Voice Compression driver attached to a newer 6 screw k-700 horn. bottom line, it's a Cluster F*,.;'k good news is - all parts are readily available at good prices. did you notice the serial "numbers" - i can see them in one of your pictures. I can help you get there (back to original) at a cost (because I don't have time to do it for free anymore.) I'm working 7 days a week, 7AM to 9 / 10 PM; bedtime ! Marantz 1040
I may just put these aside for now. The cabinets are too nice to scrap or cut up to modify. But it's to expensive to replace all the drivers and the crossovers. I'll either hunt the parts on the cheap or sell the cabinets. Either way their going to the garage so I don't have to look at them everyday. HudsonValleyNoah I guess I'm blind because I'm not seeing the serial "numbers" you're eluding to. If you want to share specifics of what you're seeing that would be appreciated. Thanks to everyone who posted.
