Moderators Youthman Posted July 6, 2015 Moderators Share Posted July 6, 2015 THX and Dolby both recommend placing surrounds in a 5.1 system at 90 - 110 degrees to the sides. So basically either directly to the left and right of your LP or slightly behind. For 7.1, you then add a pair on the back wall
swa99a
Do they have to be the same distance from the sides? Because i dont think i can do that. Also since my couch is about six inches away from the wall ,can i put them above me on the back wall spead out? Moderators Youthman Posted July 6, 2015 Moderators Share Posted July 6, 2015 Speakers can be different distances because your room correction will adjust the trim levels
Jay L
Dolby, THX, DTS, and pretty much all others use the layout specified by the ITU. Dipoles/Bipoles should always be as close as possible to 90 degrees, and not behind you. Monopoles should be behind you as we are less sensitive to direction of sound on the backside of our heads.
