LarryC
A.J. Conti, President of Basis Audio and founding genius of the Basis line of turntables Vector tone arms, died suddenly of a heart attack on Oct. 13, 2016. Robert Harley, Editor in Chief of The Absolute Sound, said he was the "exemplar of everything that's great about high-end audio." Conti's never-ending search for LP playback greatness extended to buying the machinery to make TT belts and personally measuring each belt's thickness along its entire length -- and they didn't cost a fortune, either. He was continually exploring LP playback to approach master tape quality ever more closely. "A giant of the industry, a man of great integrity, and a friend." His ready availability and helpfulness will indeed be missed. His wife and brother will continue the company. Supposedly, a number of products are in the pipeline that are "ready for release." Still, a very great loss, and too soon
