lon
I just purchased a pair of RB-5 II bookshelf speakers. Can someone advise on proper placement. Considering placing on top of low entertainment center on their sides. Will side placement affect sound quality? Lon
Guest BobG
Ideal placement would be vertical, at ear level, away from nearby reflecting surfaces, with the speakers about 60% the distance apart that you are away from the speakers (6' apart if you're 10'back). If you put them on top of the entertainment center and have them well above ear level you may want to angle them down (raise the back end with something). If you put them on their sides, remove the horn drivers and rotate each one 90 degrees (1/4 turn). This will restore the dispersion to the intended 90 degree wide by 60 degree high pattern. lon
Thanks for the helpful response. Am I to understand that I can adjust the horn drivers myself? I do so from behind, correct? If I place speakers on side and rotate horn drivers, I assume horns should be on outsides. Lon
sunnysal
I seem to remember that these have ports in the back...so please keep them a few feet from the back wall...re: turing the tweeters, you must unmount them, rotate them 90 degrees and re mount them...should be easy work...regards, tony
Soundthought
Hello Lon, If your horns have mounting screws in the front, then simply remove them with the appropriate allen wrench, turn them 1/4 turn, remount using previously removed screws, and tighten snugly in an order much like a car tire. I would say lay them on the side with the horns on the outside. But, don't be afraid to experiment with placement. Some of the most unlikely positions can yeild the most fascinating results. Although, as Tony mentioned, you do want a little distance between them and the wall. Enjoy your system.
