Droogne
What would be a good substitute in an active 3-way LaScala with a PH2380 horn instead of a K400. Having troubles finding K55 drivers in Europe (US located K55 are extremely expensive to import..). Bob crites recommended a Faital HF-140 on a Faital LTH142 horn for a 2-way LaScala. Would I be able to use the HF-140 driver on the PH2380 horn for the 3-way too? It's an expensive driver, but still cheaper than importing the K55. JohnA
Look for an AtlasIED (Atlas Sound) PD5-VH. Atlas has a distributor in Germany, if not other EU countries. A few minutes looking at my favorite drivers showed how unique the Atlas-made K-55-V really is. Few compression drivers can respond well below 1000 Hz, never mind below 400. The K-55-V/PD5-VH can respond down to 110 Hz. The early K-55-V/PD5-VH struggles to get to 6k, though. You may want to build a very steep tweeter high-pass (24 dB/oct or higher) and let the tweeter roll in at 5k, +/- 500 Hz.
