Choice for RF7.. i'm lost !

Hi everybody,

For context, I use for years an old first price Philips stereo system (<$ 70 new) to replace the speakers of my TV, and because of some of you I will join the Klipsch family in a few days.

Last week I was in my new living room which is under renovation (uninhabited since 1950, 15'x20' open on the dining room for a total of 270square foot), and a lightning flash crossed me : "Why not make a projection & HIFI room?".

The next day, in my madness, all of sheath were in place for 11.2.

After that, I visited 4 audio store. But the "Home Theater" is not really in the culture of my country, I had more erroneous information than useful information. So i ran in Internet, and i found Klipsch mark (never heard before that).

At this time I was thinking of a simple system for $ 500 to begin .. but the coppery beast caught me and eat all of my soul. Thank's to many of you for that and @Youthman for videos .. grrr not cool !

I was watching RF7 with attention.

Result, last wednesday I validated an order to begin in 5.1 :

- RP-280F x2 for front (reason came back to me)

- RP-450C for central

- RP-240S x2 for surround

- R-115SW

- Yamaha A2070

- a lot of audio cable (... I never imagined that it could cost so much)

Few hours after that, after reading that RP-280F are not really HIFI speakers and by re-losing the reason, i add a pair of RF7-III in this pack.

So,  :

- RF7-III x2 for front

- RP-450C for central

- RP-240S x2 for surround

- R-115SW

- Yamaha A2070

- (And the RP-280F for another room, dining room probably with zone 2)

Questions ! (sorry if they have been asked but I have not found anything)

But I can still change my order and i don't want to make a mistake.

1) I'm afraid the pack is unbalanced, that RF7 III does not match with RP-450 and RP-240, but i'm out of money now hahaha. Can they match ?.. or which choice is preferable ?

2) Surrounds will be behind the sofa at a distance of about 6,5' and spaced from each over 16,5'. I'm afraid (again) the sound is too diffuse with RP-240S.

Should I rather use RP-160s? (or other?).

3) Is there an end to the Klipsch madness ?

I thank you in advance for the answers !

Timeout.

First of all I'd encourage you to look at used if money is an issue.  There's many options out there, some superior options than the RF-7's even that can be had for the same or less money, especially if you're including "Hi-Fi" in your goals.

Second of all, power.  If you're going to do this, you're going to want to have an option that balances power for music and power for peaks in movies.  You need good clean power, and a good amplifier is how you get there.  For the price of the A2070 - as great of an amp as it is, there are better options just a year older for much less money with warranty still.  What features do you need/want?  I've noticed you aren't doing anything for Atmos, so is that something you don't need?  What about 4K? etc?

Lastly, how much music vs. how much movies will you be listening to/viewing?

I get the drive, I do - but money is an issue for some of us, and always throwing it around for the newest and seemingly biggest isn't going to get you where you're happy - especially if you have to sacrifice somewhere else.  Stop.  Research, and then make the choice.

Thank for your answer @The History Kid !

70% movies, 30% music. I'm not an audiophile but i can't listen music on poor speakers (i'm an old drummer).

I saw a lot of model and mark, but the Klipsch RF7 "hit" my eyes and when i read reviews on this, it seems to match with my audio goal.

In my region, it's impossible to listen speaker like that, so i take the risk.

Never said that is a reasonable choice .. :)

For the A2070 I trusted the seller's advice, after reading reviews and obtain 10% discount.

Goals : 4K/3D, 9.2, 5HDMI in/ 2out, multi-room, (very) good audio rendering. I realize that there is more adapted for less expensive, but there are so many choices that I am lost.

Wereabout are you located?  There are still much better options out there for the price, especially with the spec's you're listing off.

I'd encourage you to scrap the surrounds temporarily and do the RF-7 III and the RC-64 III for the time being.  Save up for the surrounds.  You don't want to slouch on them.  That is if you're opposed to used - which I'm assuming you are at this point.

A lost place in France..  Thank you for your advice, I will look for another receiver.

Regarding your proposal RC-64 III .. when I asked the question I suspected that it would end like that. So you recommand to change RP-450 to RC-64 III. Ok !  I'm looking at this idea  !

For the surrounds, I would like to take advantage of 5.1 at this time. So if i scrap RP-240, with what could I replace them ? You're not cool, you just destroy all of my choice ;)

I wouldn't supplement them with anything for the time being.  1) Cost, finding the matching surrounds would overstep your cost and; 2) Klipsch does not make the suitable surrounds (presumably RS-62 III) yet.  So save, wait...and then when the time comes, get what you need.

As for AVR's, consider looking at offerings from Marantz, and Integra.  You may also track down some Outlaw or Emotiva gear over there that would treat you well.  Do not get caught up with power ratings on the AVR's.  None of the AVR's you're going to be looking at will put out greater than probably 90 WPC when all of your channels are driven - and that's perfectly fine.

Nice advice .. I will do that and wait for the next generation.

I had already watched at Marantz and not see difference on price. It's could be the price in my country. For Integra, Emotiva, Outlaw ..ahahaha never seen theses on french store, we're poor ! I'm going to look for changing this AVR.

In all case thanks a lot  ! When I get all this, I'll tell you if you were good advice  ;)

  • 3 weeks later...

Cartons received 2 weeks ago !

I could not change my command as exchanged, just fired the surround, the rest was already sended.

So : I just love it.

Thanks History Kid, I really appreciate the sound of RP280 as surround.

RP450 does its job very well and don't seem to be overpass by the others. You're right, they don't play in the same class, RC-64 III would be probably better but I'm waiting to hear the difference before changing.
