cgolf70
I have a pair of RP 280s in our media room as fronts but just moved our Fortes with Crites crossovers and diaphraghms into the room next to them for music. I have to say that if I had to sell one it would be a tough decision. The 280s are great speakers but I think I would keep the Fortes. They just have a sound that is hard to beat. 3 way speakers just sound GOOD"!!!!
Moderators dtel Posted March 23, 2018 Moderators Share Posted March 23, 2018 To be fair I have not heard the RP 280's, but have all 3 versions of forte's, I would choose the Fortes also, you may be right, I just must like the 3 way and general sound of the Forte. And for some reason I like the Heritage style over tall thin speakers, just for looks. I haven't heard any Reference enough to judge the sound so I can't comment. Lateral_Line
I have the RP260 and Forte III and no doubt, the Forte III's are better in every way. Of course, if they weren't, I wouldn't have spent the money on them. That being said, the RP series is no slouch for it's price. It's very neutral sounding and non-fatiguing for long listening sessions. Although, the neutral-ness can sometimes seem "muffled". I seem to have fixed this issue when I added a power amp. That improved the clarity and sound stage quite a bit. I have decommissioned my RP's and run the Fortes full time for music and theater. So far, i'm liking it!
