prodj101
if the woofer in a speaker is 8 ohms nominal, and the tweeter is 4.7 ohms, what would be the nominal all round rating for the speaker?
arco
The rating of a speaker, also called impedance, is (can be...) a rather complex load which varies with frequency. To measure it, you will need an impedance meter and a signal generator. Now, what you read in spec sheets are sheer approximations. For example an 8 Ohm speaker should not go - by convention - lower than 6 Ohm, although in some parts of the spectrum its impedance might reach 30 Ohm or even more... I could be more precise, if you explain why you want to proceed to this measure
Deang
Also, resistors are put in the crossover circuit which impact the impedance relationship between the drivers. But basically, there is no way to know unless you do what Arco said.
prodj101
would I be safe running this in 6 ohm mode? It is just a question for the 2 way's I'm building.
arco
If you mean the amplifier output taps, you can run it wherever the sound seems better to you. No technical or other problems here!
