Best in-wall speaker wire

Ok,

I got the left speaker installed with the wire and everything. That one is all cool. It was hard as hell, but I got it done. The second speaker is on the wall that goes to the outside of the house. Right now I just have the speaker wire run under the trim and then up the wall. I want to get the wire for that one in the wall as well, but with my vaulted ceiling I can not get access to that wall from the attic. The ceiling is part of the roof, and I can not get to that wall to drill the hole to get the wire down the wall. Anyone have any suggestions on what to do? If I can get the wire to the speaker I can definitely get it down to where my jack is. So any suggestions on what to do?

Since you said you didn't wish to spend a lot, if you are doing new construction, you could even get away with using standard 2-cond 14 gauge romex (house wire), so long as you mark it at both ends that it is not carrying 110 volts! I have done this and the speakers sound fine. Romex is nothing more than solid copper wire and a lot cheaper than the premo-speaker wire out there. However, if you are doing exiting construction, try using either 14 or 12 gauge lampcord. It's stranded copper and the ribs on the insulation indicate polarity. It works fine too. What am I using on my new construction? Tributaries 12 gauge SP2. Good luck!

Did you get that wire passed yet RJB? Just noticed your post and wanted to mention that there are VERY-long drill bits for this purpose... you make the hole for your jack plate, slide the bit up your wall... and drill into the top plate from below. The bit is very flexible... and has a hole at the chuck end to attach wire into it to pull it through the wall. I have a 6 foot one at home, but they do come in longer lengths.

Let us know how it turned out...
