Does it make sense to bi-amp and set AVR to 5.1 on my 3.1 setup

I am new to home theater systems and I just bought a 3.1 setup since my room does accomodate a 5.1. I have rp-8000f front towers with the option for bi-amping and my question is more about overall sound vs needing more power. If I change my AVR to 5.1 and run the rear channels to the front towers' designated high wire spot will I benefit from more distinct sound as if it is a 5.1 or will it sound the same as just setting my AVR to 3.1 and not bi-amping?
