I'm not electronically knowledgeable to offer a solution but the above poster is going the right direction.  One of the common quick trouble shooting methods utilizes a can of freon or similar to shoot components and solder joints to find the hot spot so you know where/what to consider replacing/repairing.  When the offending hot component cools of and starts to work again you have found at least one of your problems.

This is a learning experience for me, so I have a stupid question to ask.  Wouldn't this cause more intermittent issues?  It doesn't seem to happen once it has a signal.  Case in point, I used it last night after it stopped working and it's still working now.  If it was something as described, would it be more intermittent, or not necessarily?
