I'm thinking Yamaha is about the only one with the front effects channels but I don't own the 49TXi(although I hope to one day soon), so I can't say for sure. Maybe it gives you a choice if you elect not to run the back surrounds. Hopefully bruinsrme will see this and give you the right answer.

Hey Knuckle Head,

Steelers Fan is correct in saying the "front effects" term refers to Yamaha.

If you look on page 55 of the 49txi manual the pioneer comes with a mode called x-ch stereo.

looking at page E-6 of the Yamaha RX-Z1 it sounds like the front effect and x-ch do the same thing.

What I am understanding is front effects provides the ability to go from stereo to a 5D surround sound capability? Then the txi calls it x-ch.

If this is not the correct info or I have the front effects function confused with something different please let me know exactly the Yamaha's "front Effects" function does and I will get back to you whether or not the Pioneer has a simular function..
