yamski
Can you guys tell me the difference among the KG 4, 4.2, and the 4.5. Which do you like better and why?
dougdrake
I can give you spec differences, but I've never heard the 4.2 or 4.5 to compare. I have a pair of 4s and I think they are great -- incredible bass response for a speaker of this size. The 4 has freq response of 38-20khz. The 4.2 and 4.5 are very similar - same freq response (36-20khz). KG4 sensitivity of 94 db, versus 95 db on 4.2/4.5. Same power handling on all of them (100 watts RMS, 500 watts peak). The 4 and the 4.2 use a passive radiator-type enclosure with a drone woofer on the back. The 4.5 uses a bass reflex enclosure. The 4.2/4.5 use the same tweeter and woofer (but the 4.2 adds a passive radiator).
STL
Basically the KG4.2 is vented using a passive radiator, while the KG4.5 is vented using a port. Both techniques get very close to the same results. Passive raidators are a little more expensive and harder to tune (but can sound a little better) so cost is probably why Klispch changed their design.
