Hey guys i can get a sony PFM-50C1 50 inch plasma. I currently own a 2 year old sony Hdtv (4:3 at 50 inches). A friend of mine can get me the sony plasma at exactly cost price. What i want to know is will the plasma be better on cable tv. I know it will be better on dvd, but cable and satalite tv is my concern.

Also i heard that plasma tv's are superior to Lcd when it comes to poor signals such as cable and satalite. Is this true.

The Ear where are you

If your friend can get you a 16x9 projection at cost I would get that instead. The picture on the plasma is really no better then that of a good projection. The only advantage of the plasma is the slim profile and increased viewing angle. Even at cost, the plasma won't be cheap. If you want to spend that kind of money you'd be better off buying a projector or DLP monitor or something.

My brother-in-law works in the biz (for CompView). He said the plasma sets are not all that reliable yet. And, you can get 'image burn' very easily on plasma screens if you happen to leave it on with still image (like might be encountered with a computer display). For instance, if you watch a lot of news or business news channels, where they have that band running across the bottom of the screen, the band gets 'burned' onto the screen & there is no way to get rid of it. I think plasma has the better picture, but I'm done with that "gotta have the 'bleeding edge'" mentality.

.......Garbage in/garbage out still applies. The quality of 'poor signals' has more to do with the quality of the receiver/tuner than it does with the display technology.
