lp, the tech guy at the home just yesterday told to lay the meter down if u can like on the top of the couch, close to where your ears would be, with it pointing forward toward tv center. then measure/set ALL the speakers without moving the meter.

As many opinions as there are people...I've read in an HT magazine and in BobG's posts that you should hold the SPL meter vertical, with the mic pointing toward the ceiling, at your ear level. Take the readings for all speakers from that position. I guess that makes sense if you think about how your ears (or mine, at least) are designed. Frontal sound hits your ears, does a 90 degree turn (sort of) and heads for the ear-drum. In other words, it passes over your ears rather than directly into your ears. I guess pointing the meter at the ceiling gives the same effect (sound passing over the mic rather than directly into it). Pointing the mic directly at the front speakers would be like sitting on the couch sideways facing a side wall, which is an awkward angle from which to watch TV Smile.gif
