Lone Palm
When I use the SPL meter I understand I'm to point the mic toward the TV,slightly pointed up. Do I point the mic toward the rears or center of the rears or take the reading with the mic pointed forward?
boa12
lp, the tech guy at the home just yesterday told to lay the meter down if u can like on the top of the couch, close to where your ears would be, with it pointing forward toward tv center. then measure/set ALL the speakers without moving the meter. ------------------ Klipsch KLF 30 (front), KLF C-7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnects & Monster CX-2 biwire & Z-12 cable Marantz SR-8000 receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box Boa's Listenin Lounge: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Monster MCX Biwires Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage 1975) Russound AB-2 receiver switch to RF-3 Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd changer Technics direct drive turntable Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on! dougdrake
As many opinions as there are people...I've read in an HT magazine and in BobG's posts that you should hold the SPL meter vertical, with the mic pointing toward the ceiling, at your ear level. Take the readings for all speakers from that position. I guess that makes sense if you think about how your ears (or mine, at least) are designed. Frontal sound hits your ears, does a 90 degree turn (sort of) and heads for the ear-drum. In other words, it passes over your ears rather than directly into your ears. I guess pointing the meter at the ceiling gives the same effect (sound passing over the mic rather than directly into it). Pointing the mic directly at the front speakers would be like sitting on the couch sideways facing a side wall, which is an awkward angle from which to watch TV
Mikekid
Doug is right...Point it up towards the ceiling. Much better accuracy thata way! Mike
