Craig6519
I have the Dynaco ST-70 and love it, I've never owned MacIntosh but would love the look and make. Is there a huge difference between the two. I've only ever owned this Dynaco tube amp so I'm still a tube newbie. Craig
jt1stcav
I've never heard an ST70, but I've owned an MC250 (and am using an MC2100 right now)...these classic amps were McIntosh's first SS designs (as far as I know), and because of their use of McIntosh patented Autoformers, are very tube-like in their overall sonic character. The MC250's warm, tube-like sound is about as close to vacuum tubes as a SS amp can get...many others fall short of this quality. Will the McIntosh MC250 sound equal to or better than a vintage Dynaco ST70? I can't answer that question for you; your ears would have to be the judge on that one. But I would assume that you'd be impressed with the MC250, as I and a few others here on this forum have been. The MC250 is a unique amp, and with it's classic good looks, would continue to impress you to no end!
