PhilH
A couple of us here are looking at it and it looks kind of strange...we don't remember seeing a horn or network like that before. We've left a voicemail for our Klipsch history expert in Hope to take a gander at it and see what he thinks...
Guest JimG
Heads up for anyone looking at buying this speaker. Here is the official word from Hope. "The HF horn is not original as stated, at least not from the factory. Serial #14 was the first of seven units built in a local cabinet shop, prior to an actual factory. The FIRST K-horn (X3) used a K-5 series horn, and that shape continued until the early 60's. We have (in the museum at Hope) serial #13, #18 and #20 that all use the K-5 type horn. Serial #14 could have been sold as a woofer cabinet only, with the original owner adding the HF, which would partially qualify the "original" statement. (We have no records of whom the first 20 or so were sold to, but Bell Labs is a possibility as is a private individual.) There were a few early 50's units RUMORED to have employed a Cobraflex horn (re-entrant). (We have no definitive answer on that right now.)" So, this speaker may indeed be the original #14 at least in the case of the LF section, but it either came without a HF from PWK or the original HF is missing and this "home-built" HF now replaces it. I thought you guys might like to know. Jim
Stig
BBers, That's a copy of a 70's, 80's JBL mid horn. Don't know the model# I'm sure someone will come up with it. Stig
WindsorFox
What wood material were the original Klpsch horns made from? I did not think playwood was "invented" until the 50's
