Grub
I currently need a speaker system for my apt. living room and am having a dilemma on what to purchase. I really want a klipsch system, but it seems out of my price range. I am deciding between either the klipsch promedia 5.1's or maybe the new sony dream system. I have a price range of 500-800 dollars for either a HT system or any system that can fill my apt. living room with quality sounds. What recommendations can you guys make? Thanks... BigRob
Grub, The Pro Media system is for your PC. Not a true HT setup. If you are looking for a satellite HT setup due to price / size constraints. Look into the quintet setup with the subwoofer. This provides a great HT experience, but the overall music listening experience will be a little less then desirable. If you will be listening to music too, I would recommend looking into the Synergy system if price is your main hurdle.
DwK
The Pro Media 5.1 would defeniatly be a good choice. I personaly have the 4.1, but when they come out and I get 100 bucks, I will be upgrading . DO not get the sony thing......... *pukes* For the 5.1 you will need adapters to hook it up into your DVD player. If your just using a DVD player. Get some 1/8th to RCA adapters and hook the Pro's straight up to your DVD player. If you got more than one thing you can get the adapters, and a switch box. ------------------ Living Room: Yamaha Natural Sound A-500 Stereo Amplifier 2 Klipsch Heresys on A switch 2 Fisher STV-873 on B switch My Room: Klipsch Pro Medias 2 Fisher Surrounds
DwK
BigRob is correct. The Pro's arnt a TRUE HT system. Although they do have all the components. Assuming your going to buy everything new and its at the MSRP. Pro Media's will cost you about 500$ Quintets will cost you about 900$ Synergy System 6 will cost you about 1000$ If you are buying everything at the MSRP the Quintets shouldnt be a question if you are going to go that high, the Synergy system will give you alot better preformance for 100$ more. If 1000$ is to much for your blood the 5.1 Pro Medias are a good choice still. It is a powerful 5.1 system, that can go loud. But I got another realy good solution for you. I'm sure it wouldnt be much at all, and it wouldnt be a big hassle, to run down to your local Best buy or Circut city, and pick up a Bose setup. That would give you the Ultimant HT and Music setup. s> ------------------ Living Room: Yamaha Natural Sound A-500 Stereo Amplifier 2 Klipsch Heresys on A switch 2 Fisher STV-873 on B switch My Room: Klipsch Pro Medias 2 Fisher Surrounds
Grub
Thanks for the replies guys those were very helpful. I've also been looking into some B&W 303 series speakers with a center channel and sub all from B&W. Are those comparable with the synergy or the quintet system from klipsch? DwK
The 303 series will give you a better sound, than the Quintets, Most deffeniatly. Not real sure about the Synergy, been awhile since I listend to them both. What will you be using it for mostly? Music or Movies? How much would the B&W stuff cost you? ------------------ Living Room: Yamaha Natural Sound A-500 Stereo Amplifier 2 Klipsch Heresys on A switch 2 Fisher STV-873 on B switch My Room: Klipsch Pro Medias 2 Fisher Surrounds
Grub
I will be using the speakers for both music and movies. Mostly music though. The B&W system will be roughly a grand. How much are those bose that you are recommending?
T2K
Hey Grub, where do you live? Consider the Definitive Technology ProCinema systems.ProCinema 80's(two pair), ProCenter100,and an 8"/250 watt sub for $1000 MSRP.Send me a PM.May be able to help you. DwK
Hahaha. I was only kidding about the Bose. Bose sucks *** Do you have a place to listen to this stuff? You should listen to the stuff before you make a decission. Do you REALY want a 5.1 setup? Or would a GOOD 2 Channel set up make you happy? 2 Heresy II's and a good Amp. That will cost you about 1000$ also. But you will have a REALY good setup. And later on add on the other speakers. I personaly, Would take that over any of these 5.1 setups, for 1000$ ------------------ Living Room: Yamaha Natural Sound A-500 Stereo Amplifier 2 Klipsch Heresys on A switch 2 Fisher STV-873 on B switch My Room: Klipsch Pro Medias 2 Fisher Surrounds
