Big Sheesh
When playing CD's I get no sound from rear speakers using Windows Media Player. However I have sound if playing from Winamp or mp3 from hard drive. I made sure that quadrophonic is selected. What's up with that?

Big Sheesh
What is the fix for this?
Makaveli
get an "MINI "Y" ADAPTER FOR 2 MINI HEADPHONES" this will allow you to plug the main AND the rear plugs into one then into the green hole. i just picked one up today at an electronics store for 2.99. this will give you 4.1 stereo sound =]. heres a link. http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?cookie%5Ftest=1&catalog%5Fname=CTLG&category%5Fname=CTLG%5F007%5F002%5F001%5F002&product%5Fid=274%2D879 hope that helps =]
Big Sheesh
I don't think I'm making myself clear. I am not using a portable CD player. I am playing CD's using an internal CD player in my computer. When using Winamp, I get sound from all 4. When using Windows Media Player, I only get sound from fronts. Why is this? and what's the fix?
Makaveli
yes i know that just buy that adapter and it allows you to combine the rear and the front speakers into one so you can plug it in the green hole in your pc soundcard which will make it 4.1 stereo. Big Sheesh
Thanks. I already have one of those Y plugs and I use that with my portable CD player. But what I want to know is - Is Windows Media Player supposed to act that way or is there something wrong with my drivers?
Makaveli
oh thats just how the windows media player is, it can't make 5.1 nor 4.1 stereo sound =<. goodluck though =>.

Makaveli
No problem man, anytime. Oh yeah, tell me if it works too. P.S. - Please don't call me sir -- I'm only 15 makes me sound old .
jackson_ngo
whats the point of listening to music in 4.1 or even 5.1 channel? surround speakers arn't ment for music listening. Is your front channel not loud enough? I find it stupid to listen to music in surround. When u are listening to a real life concert, do the sound comes from the front or do the sound comes from 360 degress?
Makaveli
well for me i got the promedia 2.1 and the logitech 4.1 so i use this method with the logitech since the mids are really there since the satts are so small. and since i gotta pretty decent size room, it disperses the sound alot better since i put the satts far apart. jackson_ngo
A y-adapter just split the stereo sound into two, causing just a stereo reflection. Using that you wouldn't get surround sound in movies.
Makaveli
yeah that's true =/, but i only use my computer for music and some games 99% of the time so that isn't a problem for me.
Rdmarsiii
If you get Microsoft Plus for Windows, it has speaker upgrades for WMP, to where you can choose which speakers you use and the best configuration for them. That is what I am doing, and it sounds even better than before.
jackson_ngo
but the promedia 4.1 isn't there..they only have the promedia 2.
