  1. Sorry to give you the bad news but about 98% of the difference you hear is all placebo...
  2. I concur with 007 fully. You get what you pay for -- a very high-end system. If you think about, it's not that overpriced, Klipsch would lose a lot of money if they sold it any cheaper.
  3. Turn the window volume down to about 70% and the player about 70%. The distortion should go away.

This years journey has been a growing experience of exponential size for me. I experienced many varied emotions. My Mom was dignosed with cancer on April 17th, my world stopped as I knew it. It was changed forever. Mom had a virolent strain that had metastisized in her spine, liver, lungs and brain. Try as we did, we could not save her. She passed with me holding her hand on my 15th wedding anniversary, June 11th. I realized at that time that life was meant to be lived for the moment. My family and friends became more important to me. Money, and values changed. I realized that we never know when our time is up, so sieze the moment. Thanks to all you on the forum who helped me through this period in my lfe. The Klipsch Forum, will always be a special place for me. You guys have helped me thru some of my roughest days, always with kindness and heartfelt prayers and love. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. This Thanksgiving is a little bit lonelier for me and my family. All will be well though, I pray a lot more, and have become much more spiritual. Audio, and the pursuit of sonic bliss has definately been an obsession for me, especially since Mom's passing. I have learned so much from this forum, and the people on this BBB. I hope I have not offended anyone here, or hurt any feelings. If so, I apologize. When I get obsessed, I sometimes take it to overbearing proportions. This is a fun and beatiful pursuit. I just want to wish the Forum participants, and the moderators, a wonderful, happy Thanks giving and to remind you all, that life is to be lived, to it's fullest. Please enjoy your families and friends today, and pray to those loved ones who are no longer with you. They are watching out for us. Have fun and enjoy Steve Smilin ---------------- Very touching. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
  5. LOL...that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard...200?!?! Come on! That is just ridiculous...and about that speaker wire...it better be some miracle wire from heaven.
  6. Yup, definately not paper. I've felt the material, it feels like a very thick polypropene (sorry for spelling). The only downside is that the driver's silver color just isn't shiny enough to me, it seems rather dull and plasticy.
  7. Good God. lol. You HTers make me feel so weak with my puny Klipsch 2.1 sub...
  8. If your on a tight budget, the Sennheiser HD-497s can't be beat for the price!
  9. I actually just heard the new Synergy series entry bookshelf and sad to say I wasn't impressed at all. Maybe it was just the poor Bestbuy setup/amplication/and source but they sounded horrible. It didn't sound like Klipsch. The highs were harsh and dry and the midrange was super bad (literally). Bass was even pretty much non-existant. It's most likely the poor receiver it's hooked up too.
  10. I hope everything turns out good for you. Best wishes.
  11. dBpowerAMP Music Converter for me. Works great.
  12. Good Idea. Would I be able to hook any satts up to the Yamaha receiver to test? Could I hook up the ProMedia satts to the receiver to test? Would the Ohm rating of the receiver and satt matter in this case?
  13. Hmm, I don't know. I've heard that the Athenas are the best cheap bookshelves but I guess I'll have to give them a listen.
  14. Yeah I'm hoping its not the receiver but it's that crappy midrange/high producing BOSE bass module thats really mest up. How about these Athenas? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1051806301597&skuId=5335853&productCategoryId=cat03043&type=product PS - Can anyone find the price on these? Bestbuy can't display the price EDIT - err nm they are 400 per pair ><
  15. Hey, do you mean Quintets? I personally would try to stay away from satts as much as possible because they just can't produce music like a bookshelf can. (Maybe the RSX-4 but that's all I know). My mom mostly listening to vietnamese music so a subwoofer will not be needed. I think that money would be better spent on quality shelves. Plus She will not be watching movies at all what so ever so I dont really need more than two speakers.
  16. How about http://shop3.outpost.com/product/3753246 + http://shop3.outpost.com/product/3342812
  17. Hey guys, Long story short, my mom is looking to upgrade her Music setup in her bedroom. The current setup is so crappy right now it is actually broken. My dad gave her a setup that was conected to a decent Yamaha receiver with a compact BOSE (yuck) subwoofer along with some decent JBL satts. After my mom went into my room and listened to my Altec's she knew it was time to upgrade . She's leaving the upgrade mostly up to me to choose what to buy since I know the most about audio in the whole family. Though I know alot about MM, home audio is a little different. So my question is, what should I buy with around a 400 dollar budget? I was thinking a fairly decent receiver and then a pair of nice bookselves? It's only for music so a subwoofer would not neccessary for her. I would need some decent bookselves that can extend quite well in the 60-50Hz range though. Any suggestions? I was thinking 200 on a reciever and the other 200 for a pair of bookselves? I really like Polk bookselves for there neutralness quality. How about These ? I really want to get some Klipsch speakers but the reference line is way to expensive right now for my mom's budget and the Synergy isn't very good and musical ethier. What about the receiver? Will a ~200 dollar one be any good? Sorry for the long post but please help! Remember, quality over quanity
  18. Hmm, I'm not sure if this would work in your case but taking in consideration you had them for such a long time the metal contacts and plugs might just be dirty. Try cleaning them with alchohol. It's worth a try!
  19. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think 'nearfield' means the speaker is ment to be placed closed to the listening area. Most home speakers/bookselves are far-field which means they sound best and are at full potential when you are a x amount of distance away (usally around 10 feat I think).
  20. Oic, never knew that, good little read ^^.
  21. Foobar with Kernal Streaming enabled. Period.
  22. Audigy II ZS or Audigy II OEM. Both are great for gaming. I heard the ZS has better drivers and DACS for music I think too.
  23. Yeah. Do you listen to music mostly? If you do you should consider the Chanitech AV710 card. Better music quality than the Audigy II at 1/5 the cost.
  24. Chiaki Kuriyama was the best!!!
