WebAddict
Why is it that I am learning that the new ProMedia 5.1 will not have a digital connection? What is it? Just RCA? How could it be THX-Certified without a digital connection? Why doesn't it have one? That is stupid...
ninjit
A digital conneciton would implie an inbuilt signal decoder and that would push the price up even higher than its currently slated at ($400?). A lot of people who have the money to buy this already have decoders or 5.1 sound cards, and don't need a digital input, they'd just rather save the money. Its why Klipsch is offering the Audio Tornado for purchase, for those who want/need to buy a digital decoder. On a side, isn't there anything better than the Audio Tornando? Its the same little system that Midiland and Videologic ahve been using for quite a while: pretty old and pretty generic. Isn' there anything else that at least has 4 channel analog inputs in addition to the digital. DTS support would be cool too. But that might be pushing the price up a fare bit. But then agian yamaha managed to incorporate all that into their cheap little system (the TSS1), pity about the speakers they use though. -Jit
cd36
Amy said the Audio Tornado was changed a bit to work with the 4.1's so would that mean they added 4 channel analog input?
Spider124
The decoders in most of the 5.1 PC systems are junk. The best solution is exactly what Klipsch is doing. Use the Pro 5.1's with a 5.1-channel soundcard that can decode Dolby Digital when playing DVD's. (I think the SB Live 5.1 can do this.) Charlie ------------------ "What's that noise?" "It's the carpet, it kinda mutes the speakers." "No, it sounded more like the chandalier falling."
Gluegun
the SBLive! 5.1 can do it, but the Philips Acoustic Edge and the Hercules Game Theatre XP can do it better. Also, for software dolby digital 5.1 and DTS decoding, it would be VERY wise to get WinDVD 3.0 when it comes out. ------------------ "Feh."
