space_cowboy
Thought I'd come down here for the first time since the St. Pat's thread in General was going downhill fast. Anyway, in the subject movie, what is the Irish folk song tune that is played a couple of times? The lyrics seem to match the scene/situation, but why is it Irish? Is this some classic tune or was it made for the movie? I've wondered this since the first viewing and am playing it now. Just really curious about this. Thanks
BBB
A good drummer trivia question . Its Scottish. The song is called "Sgt. Mackenzie". The song is performed by the band "Clann An Drumma" sung and written by Joseph Mackenzie who is a drummer in the band and is a tribute to his great grandfather Sgt. Charles Stuart Mackenzie who served with the Seaforth Highlanders during world war one.
space_cowboy
Thanks for the info BBB! The band has a website and there is a small audio clip available to hear. The song just really seems to fit in the movie. Thanks again.
mandi
And what is really appropriate about the song is I think the movie was written for the SGT MAJ.. It was not of course but he did a great job and there really needs to be more focus on these guys in movies. I have been around a few crusty ole 1st SGTS and SGT Majors and he fit the ticket. I LMAO, everytime I think of the comment, " What's so damn good about it?" But what is really funny, is had the poor soldier NOT SAID good morning he probably would have gotten his butt chewed good. This is one of the few movies I own.
space_cowboy
LOL mandi, another is when he comments something like "What are you, the f****** weather man now". As you, this is one of the few that I own. Cheers
