OK, pay attention:

Dougy buys Pioneer Elite VSX55TXi and DV47Ai in 8/03. Receiver starts buzzing and goes in shop in 11/03. Receiver is repaired (new transformer) 1/04. Late 1/04, DVD-A will not play through i-link, so player goes in shop. 2/04 shop calls - they want receiver, so it goes to shop too. 5/04 - both units are now home again.

For those of you keeping score, the reciver has been in the repair shoppe over half of the eight+ months I have owned it; the player has been in the shoppe over three months of the same period.

So, will they work properly now? ...and for how long? Needless to say, my confidence level is rather low. We'll see. Maybe I'll just e-bay them now, and take my lumps. 8.gif

I say keep them. Or at least the DV47Ai, as that didn't seem to have any problems. Besides, if they go bad down the road again, you may be able to use the fact that they've been in so many times to your advantage. Just remember, written warranties mean nothing a lot of times if you're willing to argue and go up a few levels in tech support staff.1.gif

*EDIT: Also, check for Lemon Laws in your state. I know in Pennsylvania if something goes into the shop 3 times for similar problems, they have to replace it with a new or remanufactured unit.

Actually, the second problem did turn out to be in the DV-47Ai player. They replaced "a couple of expensive boards", reprogrammed it, and all appears to be well again.

I hooked everything back up last night and listened to the SACD reissue of Elton John's "GOODBYE, YELLOW BRICK ROAD" and then to The DVD-A reissue of "HOTEL CALIFORNIA", by the Eagles. Everything seems fine. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I have had both those units for 6 months now, no problems with either, love 'em both.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with them. Noting beats the firewire connection for 5.1 audio!!

JDM, how does that reciever sound with the Khorns? I finally got around to ordering a NEW pair, just curious about what to expect....

WHOA!! Wait a sec, you ordered a new pair of Klipschorns or recievers? New Klipschorns are like a birth announcement around here. There are plenty of aunts and uncles to celebrate and many, many cousins too.

Let's hear all about it!2.gif

Dave,

This is really about the first thing(s) I've had trouble with, equipment-wise, in a long, long while. Maybe I was overdue. All is well now, though, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed, cuz like you said, the i-link connection is really the only way to do SACD and DVD-A, imho. Unless, maybe you have identical speakers and a room that allows you to set them up where they are all the same distance from you. But even then, you would not have as good a bass management set-up as the i-link allows. The blue i-link lights are kinda cool, too!10.gif So, I really want to be happy with this combo, and I will if they will just hold up. Again, imho, I think they are one of the best lookin' receiver/uni player combos out there. Fer whatever that's worth, I guess. To me, looks are important. Just call me shallow.

As for sound with k-horns, I am quite happy with it, especially with good SACD or DVD-A titles - MAGIC! Better CD's sound great, too, while turkeys of all formats still sound like turkeys. I think this is as it should be.

Oh yeah, like Rick said, New heritage purchases are a BIG DEAL here, so we'll be expecting a full review!

Rick - I ordered a new pair of Khorns.....I trolled the net looking for a used pair for a few months, and finally decided to pull the trigger on a pair of new ones. I expect I will (hopefully) get them around Oct-Nov (they tell me 4-6 months).

Of course, I will post a review once I get a chance to put them through their paces!! 2.gif

Woah dude, 8 whole months waiting on getting it fixed? I started buggin the heck out of H/K and tech specialists when mine went more than 4 weeks without much work done. Whining can be a good thing, they sent me a new upgrade. I don't know HOW you could stand THAT long of a time and not throw a fit, ask for money back, a replacement etc....I wish I had that kind of patience...

Secondly, wow a new pair of K-Horns. I never knew it took so long to get a pair once you order them. What is the process and why does it take so dang long?

What else can be expected from Pioneer, 'elite' or not? The quality disappeared from the brand name decades ago. My Pioneer HT receiver was an absolute piece of junk that ended up in the trash can after a costly attempt at out-of-warranty repairs!

Lance:

According to the dealer through which I purchased the new Khorns, new Heritage speaker models are "built to order" when they have enough orders to warrant building a whole group of speakers. THere aren't any sitting around in a warehouse ready for sale.

I just found out that mine will be built the week of June 25th, so it looks like it won't take 4-6 months after all (I ordered in late April)9.gif

The only way I could stand the wait on my receiver and uni player was because I had another A/V receiver to fall back on - a Panasonic SA-HE200 that is normally powering our family room set-up. It did a fine job, but without a lot of the neat features of the Pioneer. The toughest thing was getting a few new SACD's and having no way to listen to them.

The lead time on new heritage can be a pain, too. I waited fourteen months on a new belle to use as a center speaker between my two cornerhorns. Don't panic though, I'm sure the lead time is more reasonable now. My timing was just kinda bad - production was suspended, klipsch craftspeople came and went, etc, etc. They are worth the wait, though!
