ez8947
Where can I get a SPL Meter and about how much do they run? Are these the things that tell you the decibel levels of your different frequencies?
Juba310
They have one at radio shack for 50 dollars. Not the best, but a good deal for the price.

Juba310
Well, all you do is play a certain frequency via a test disc of some sort, and then measure how loud it is with the SPL meter. At least I think thats what those guys do.
Colin
The traditional stand-by test CDs are the ones in the Stereophile series. They are not expensive. The last in the series, number four, has the freshest recordings. Make sure it has standard test tone tracks. Go to http://www.stereophile.com. Ya canna be a tweaking audiophile without a Test CD and SPL meter. The latest $40 Rat Shack version is cute and handy; just be sure to allow as much as 2dB to both the high and low end for errors, and follow the instructions carefully the first time. Darren
Radio shack has both a digital and an analog meter. I've heard (mostly on this forum) that the analog is the better option. That's what I have and it's easy to use and I've never noted any problems. The different frequencies are played using a test disc and the meter tells you now loud it plays.
