I'm not yet into multichannel and so don't have any info on the performers.

There was an article in a publication or NPR squib, some years ago, on how there is a "star" or "snob" factor in classical music recordings and performances. A big name conductor or orchestra is marketable. And they want big bucks to make a recording. They're locked up with DG, Sony or the like.

Nonetheless, there are lesser known conductors and orchestras who make just as good music, or better, and don't get the limelight or recording contracts.

I have a suspicion that if some newcomer to the recording industry has a bright idea about multichannel recording and mixing, they will seek out a lesser known orchestra and cook a deal which otherwise would not be possible for either.

The bottom line is that many fabulous performances and recording do occur on small labels.

Gil,

I went ahead and bought it. It sounds good to me, although I don't pretend to know much about classical music.

This is a multi layer SACD that has a 2 channel version playable in CD players. I also think there is a strsight 2 channel CD version available.
